Expanded perlite

Discover expanded perlite

Perlite for construction

Perlite is a natural volcanic rock that contains large amounts of water, trapped during its formation. As a result of the expansion process, i.e. sintering at a temperature of up to 1000 C, the grains of crushed ore increase their volume even several times, resulting in expanded perlite. Thanks to the treatment at high temperatures, we obtain an extremely versatile product, light, chemically and biologically sterile with a very wide range of applications, ranging from construction, through agriculture and gardening, to cosmetics.

Application of expanded perlite

Check, where you can use the expanded perlite

An admixture for gypsum plasters

You can find products with perlite filler in the offer of companies producing gypsum coats and plasters. Whether it is a plaster for manual or machine application, perlite plays an important role in the composition, lowers the weight of the plaster (perlite weight 80-100 kg / m³), improves workability, and has a positive effect on mass transport by plastering units. The use of perlite for plaster reduces the cost as the mass efficiency increases significantly, even up to 35%. The use of perlite improves the thermal insulation of the resulting plasters as well as their acoustic tightness. Commercially available are plasters and masses ready for use, thin-layer plasters and the previously mentioned products in a dry form to make a mass by adding water. Depending on the thickness of the applied plaster layers, the perlite used in them has a granulation of 0.1 to 2 mm.

Cement-lime plasters and mortars

Thermal insulation products have become a permanent feature of our construction sites. Not everyone wonders what is included in such products, but many people cannot imagine building without thermal insulation mortars. The development and improvement of insulation parameters of wall materials contributed to the creation of mortars with insulation parameters similar to brick or block. At the beginning, masonry mortars were used and then heat-insulating plasters were created. The producers of construction chemicals quickly reached for perlite and for many years they have appreciated it as an ideal base for the creation of thermal insulation masses and mortars. One of the common mortars is a heat-insulating mortar for building aerated concrete and ceramic blocks. Most manufacturers even order bricklaying with the use of warm mortars from their own offer. Perlite cement-lime plaster is the most innovative solution in its class. It replaces polystyrene as a thermal insulator, but it is a more versatile material because it is non-flammable, resistant to rodents, chemicals and is an acoustic insulator. Perlite plaster “breathes”, unlike polystyrene, and allows you to shift the dew point and transport moisture to the outside.

Expanded perlite as a thermal insulator

Loose perlite without the need to mix with cement or gypsum finds many applications in the construction industry. The solution promoted by JAWAR is the insulation of chimneys with expanded perlite in the renovation technology. In a nutshell, it consists in filling the surface between the steel or ceramic pipe and the casing with perlite. Why is it so important – we invite you to read the expert advice on the JAWAR website. Perlite bags are ideal insulation for the floor. It is enough to place bags with perlite on the prematurely prepared substrate and pour it with concrete. Similarly, we can make insulation of multi-level and irregularly shaped ceilings as well as insulation between joists.

Perlite concrete

It has been produced in our company for several years. We can say immodestly that we are the leader in its production. We use perlite concrete for the industrial production of prefabricated elements for chimney technology. These are mainly flue gas chimney casings and ventilation blocks, but this is only a small part of the application. Many other prefabricated elements from perlite concrete can be made, such as architectural concrete slabs, soundproof barriers or elements of garden architecture. Semi-liquid semi-solid concrete is an ideal material for floor screeds, in this case it performs an insulating and load-bearing function.
